Social Movement in India

 

  1. At the end of the course, students should be able to distinguish the central principles  of different theoretical perspectives in the sociology of social movements and relate them to specific historical and empirical contexts.
  2. Learn to use sociological theories on social movements to identify a phenomenon as  one.
  3. Understand the dynamics and motivations of individuals and groups participating in  social movements and identify reasons for success (or failure) of social movements.
  4. Discuss and ask questions about social movement theories and methodologies with  insight and precision.
  5. Use sociological concepts to explain the rise and impact of social movements such as the women’s movement, Dalit Movement, Tribe Movement.

  1. Identify different concepts of violence and apply this knowledge for gender violence.
  2. Identify and reflect on key concepts that link gender and violence, such as gender violence, and relate these to development issues and practices.
  3. Understand gender-based violence against women and girls as a human rights violation, with legal, social, and inter-personal aspects, which is both a cause and consequence of  gender discrimination.
  4. Understand that taking a stand on gender-based violence against women and girls - and other forms of gender inequality affecting women.

A Guest Lecture was organised by Department of Sociology on the occasion of memories of The Great Chh. ShahuMaharaj death anniversary on 6th May, 2022 on the topic of ‘Thoughts & Work of RajarshiShahuMaharajand messages for today’s age.’ Dr.NavanathShinde (Farmer Head, Dept. of Sociology, AjaraMahavidyalaya, Ajara) delivered a thoughtful lecture on above topic.
